Simply Pure Trenton: From Cannabis Arrest to Cannabusiness

I produced this video profile on Tahir Johnson, a Trenton canna-business owner who received a social equity grant to start his business after a long history of being targeted in his own neighborhood during the marijuana prohibition era. After this video was released on Governor Murphy’s social media pages, Tahir was asked to be a special guest at the Governor’s budget address.

  • How New Jersey Has Improved Maternal Health Outcomes

How New Jersey Has Improved Maternal Health Outcomes

I’ve helmed a series of legacy videos to highlight the accomplishments of the Murphy Administration. I created this video about the maternal health legacy of New Jersey, featuring a mother and baby who benefited from Family Connects NJ and an interview with the First Lady of New Jersey.

  • How New Jersey Restored Voting Rights to Over 80,000 People

How New Jersey Restored Voting Rights to Over 80,000 People

To showcase the Murphy Administration’s legacy on voting rights in New Jersey, I filmed, edited, and produced this video, which included interviews with Lt. Governor Way, Henal Patel from the Institute, and Antonne Henshaw, who was incarcerated for decades. I interviewed Antonne for almost an hour, creating a comfortable space for him to share his story.

  • From Incarcerated to Helping Prisoners Get Jobs Post-Release

From Incarcerated to Helping Prisoners Get Jobs Post-Release

For the Governor and the State of New Jersey (@govmurphy and @njgov), I produced, filmed and edited this video about Abdur, who went from being incarcerated decades ago to working to help the incarcerated find jobs post-release, and now his service has been recognized with a pardon by Governor Murphy. I worked with the NJ Department of Corrections to create this video, filming at their facilities with an incarcerated individual.

This Barber Works with Children with Autism & Sensory Needs

While scrolling TikTok, I found Billy, a barber who specializes in children on the  autism spectrum or with sensory processing issues, and was moved by his mission. I single handedly created (filmed, lit, edited, etc.) the video, filming it on a professional set-up vertically for TikTok and Reels. After it was posted on NJGov’s platforms for Small Business Week, it became one of NJGov’s most viewed Reels/TikToks ever.

Face the Morning - Amoy Barnes for City Council

For Amoy Barnes for New York City Council, I worked directly with the candidate and we created her video strategy together. I produced, wrote and directed her launch video, “Face the Morning,” which visualized the daily struggles of Staten Islanders through their morning rituals. Each of these New Yorkers were then given their own, dedicated video vignette and accompanying issue they represented, and were featured on the priorities page of Amoy Barnes’ Website.

    NYCHA One-On-One

For Amoy Barnes’ campaign for city council, I was asked to produce a video featuring a family in NYCHA. My idea was to have this brother and sister interview each other with questions they had never seen before, to capture their real emotional reactions while also informing the audience about their struggles of living in NYCHA.

I directed, filmed, (along with Braulio Lin) and edited this video.

  • The Father and his 8 Year Old Son who Reenact Together

The Father and his 8 Year Old Son who Reenact Together

One of the initiatives of the State of New Jersey has been to promote the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, “Rev250.” My goal as a video producer is always to go deep on one story (micro) to represent something larger (the macro.) For Rev250, I profiled Pete and Ben, father-and-son re-enactors who have bonded over this pastime since Ben was born. I produced, filmed, and edited this video entirely myself. It was co-posted with @NJGov and the NJ State Parks account.

  • Governor Murphy Announces Second Round of Medical Debt Elimination with Andrew Gregory

Governor Murphy Announces Second Round of Medical Debt Elimination with Andrew Gregory

Governor Murphy was set to relieve a record amount of medical debt in conjunction with UnDue Medical Debt. I pitched the idea of utilizing Andrew Gregory, a famous YouTuber (Schmoyoho) and medical debt advocate, to make this announcement on-camera with the Governor. It was a way to reach more people outside of a press release, but it was also a way to connect it to Andrew’s personal story – his wife’s dying wish was to relieve as much medical debt as possible.

  • Rank Choice Voting - Thumbnail - Corrected.png

    What is Ranked-Choice Voting?

For Amoy Barnes’s 2021 campaign  for City Council, the campaign wanted a video to explain the newly-established system of ranked-choice voting in NYC elections. So, I produced (wrote, filmed and edited) this upbeat and informative Wes Anderson-style explainer video for ranked choice voting, illustrating how this process works through a class election.

  • Governor Murphy Visits a Marijuana Grow House

Governor Murphy Visits a Marijuana Grow House

I produced this video where the Governor visited Prolific Grow House and its founder, David Nicolas, one of the youngest cannabis growers in New Jersey. David was able to tell the Governor about his legacy to legal journey and how state social equity grants made it possible for him to achieve his dream. I worked tirelessly on this video – from having it pitched to the Governor, to working on the ground with our advance team to ensure the visit went smoothly, to filming and editing the video.

The video not only commemorated the historic win, but also the amazing people behind the victory.

  • These Mothers are Fighting for Safer Streets in New Jersey

These Mothers are Fighting for Safer Streets in New Jersey

This video exemplified “finding the story” as I highlighted the Target Zero Law, which aims to prevent traffic deaths in New Jersey. I only had an hour to film and interview these mothers before the bill signing. I had to find the story while also being tactful with how I approached this sensitive subject. For this video, I produced, filmed, and edited it, utilizing archival footage.

  • How Cranberries are Grown in New Jersey

How Cranberries are Grown in New Jersey

I produced, filmed (along with Rich Hundley III) and edited this video on the cranberry bogs of New Jersey. We immersed ourselves in the environment, getting into the bogs to capture the multi-generational family story. We used many different cameras for this video, ranging from a drone to a Go-Pro to the Sony and Canon cameras we were wielding, all while trying not to fall into the bogs.

For Dawn Smalls’s 2018 campaign for New York City Public Advocate, I produced (filmed, edited) this video featuring Dawn’s hairstylist describing what he admires about her while doing her hair. The campaign and I both thought it was a unique perspective for a “testimonial” and showed the candidate literally and figuratively with her hair down, in a relatable moment.
